Aloooha, friends! How was everyone’s weekend? Mine was spectacular! I had the chance to check off an activity from my Hawaiian bucket list! For a while now, I’ve been wanting to swim with sharks, and this weekend I finally had the opportunity!
A good friend had a birthday last week, so to celebrate, we did the cage dive (and mom’s weekend) this weekend! John and I have been pretty slow about going out and adventuring on our own, so it’s awesome that I finally had a good reason to go out and do this!
Our tour was scheduled for 8 am, but I think our boat probably left at about 7:50. We made our way by boat out about three miles from the North Shore, to the cage location. The waters were really choppy, but as long as we were moving forward, I was fine.
Once anchored to the cage, my group of friends was the first to dive in. What an amazing experience! There were TONS of sharks all around us! They circled around us, but they all seemed to be minding their business.
I’d say we were in the water for about 15 or 20 minutes total. In that time, the birthday girl got sick and threw up. Being the great friend that I am, I got to swim in it. Thankfully, we were out in the open ocean, so it wasn’t a huge deal.
When our turn in the cage was up, we made our way up to the boat to sit through the two other groups’ turns. Sitting on the rough waters caused me to also toss my
cookies Cap’n Crunch. Definitely not a fun experience. Especially considering that I grew up boating in the ocean.
As soon as all three groups cycled through, we made our way back to land, where I immediately felt better and remedied my empty stomach with a breakfast burrito from Kono’s.
I was disappointed that I didn’t get better photos, but this is an activity that I plan on doing again.
