Surprise! We bought a house! Another house. And I’m absolutely in love with it!
Obviously, life has been busy (and my computer has been broken for a little bit), but we finally moved in two weeks ago. It’s been quite the adventure getting settled!
Purchasing a home in Kentucky isn’t exactly what I wanted, but housing options for us here were limited. Rentals in the area that we wanted, with the space that we needed, that allowed dogs were slim to none. We considered living on post again, but the only house available to us was wayyyy too small. Plus, I didn’t want the worry of having to hide Caesar’s breed. Especially with the almost nonexistent yard and chain link fences.
We first found this house online while still in Hawaii. The price was higher than what we were looking for, but we kept it on our faves list anyway. While still living in Hawaii, the price dropped significantly. It dropped once again just after we had arrived, and we knew we had to snatch it up!
Turns out this place was a foreclosure. We’ve watched enough HGTV to know we were ready to tackle a bit of a fixer upper. Which thankfully, is all this place was! It needed some cleaning and updating after sitting empty for a few years, but we were able to tackle it all before our household goods arrived 3 days after move-in.
I know many military families aren’t too keen on buying while still on active duty, but we view our homes as investments. We’re able to put our BAH into our mortgage, instead of paying the mortgage for someone else. When it comes time for us to PCS, we’ll rent the house out, and have our renters cover the mortgage! Things have been AMAZING with the house we own in Georgia, so we’re hoping for more of that good luck!
The last bit of our HHGs that got lost in transition finally arrive tomorrow. After that we’ll be able to settle in. We’ve already completed a handful of minor projects around the house, including replacing the microwave and hanging blinds, but there is still plenty more that can be done to build equity.
It’s so exciting to be living in my own home again and to be doing home improvement projects! I can’t wait to share everything with you guys!
